Anita Reynolds, artist and Printmaker, walked 630 miles of The South West Coast Path from Minehead to Poole throughout 2012, 2013 and 2014, producing drypoint plates each day. Her journey and drypoint plates inspired prints, larger pieces, photographs and numerous sketchbooks that formed two exhibitions called Outline South West.
Villages in Action in partnership with the Devon Guild of Craftsmen supported a parallel project to the Outline South West project called Postcards from the Path.
In the project, Anita collaborated with four artists – Philippa Burlet (ceramicist), Carol Timms (feltmaker), Caroline Parrott (aluminium artist & jewellery maker) and Richard Povall (sound artist). The artists spent time with Anita on a section of her coastal path journey and created their own response to this beautiful and changing slice of our South West landscape.
School children and villagers were then able to join in ViA creative workshops with the artists, learning how to make prints, feltwork, ceramics, sound pieces and jewelry inspired by walks taken around their villages.
2015 was a time to celebrate the ‘path-inspired’ work produced by the artists and the local participants through exhibitions at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, in Devon village halls and also at the prestigous Durlston Castle in Dorset.
As one villager commented: “ to have artwork of this quality on show in our village hall is magnificent and this means that people who do not usually go to art galleries can see and experience the artists work and in this case they can also be proud of their work sitting alongside that of professional artists.”
